Practical Mandarin for Real-World Impact
Our Story & Mission
Built in Central for Real Communication
Learning a language should never be about memorizing disconnected word lists or repeating phrases you will never use in real life. It is about being able to walk into a room, express your thoughts clearly, and build trust with the people around you.
Nihao Language Education was founded in 2014 in Central, Hong Kong’s financial district. From day one, our goal has been clear: replace outdated rote learning with practical, scenario-based Mandarin coaching that delivers measurable progress for busy professionals and families.
Over the past 12+ years, we have grown from a private tutoring practice into one of Hong Kong’s most trusted language institutes for Teaching Chinese as a Second Language (TCSL).
Our Mission: To provide direct, structured, and highly functional Mandarin education that respects your schedule and turns language skills into real career and life advantages.
Our Vision: To be the primary Chinese learning partner for professionals, multinational teams, and young learners across Hong Kong and Asia.

A Message from Our Founder
Nihao Language Education was never something I just came up with sitting behind an office desk. It was built lesson by lesson, after I personally taught over 13,000 hours of live classes, and after seeing so many students get stuck with rigid methods and outdated textbooks.
I started tutoring during my undergraduate degree in English Education. After completing my teacher training and earning my Master’s in Teaching Chinese as a Second Language (TCSL), I dedicated myself entirely to language education.
I did my teaching internship at Hong Kong English Schools Foundation ESF Kowloon Junior School, teaching Year 5 Mandarin Chinese. Right after graduating, I took my first full-time job as a Chinese teacher at PLK Camões Tan Siu Lin Primary School.
Teaching young learners in top Hong Kong schools taught me something clear: when course materials are lively, the methodology actually makes sense, and the teacher brings real energy into the room, non-native kids pick up Chinese incredibly fast. They don’t fight speaking Mandarin or writing characters at all. Once I had solid experience teaching kids, I realized I hadn’t taught adults yet. To understand how students of all ages learn language, I stepped out of my comfort zone, left the school system, and joined a language center that mainly taught expatriate adults.
Hong Kong is one of the fastest-paced business hubs in the world. I saw managing directors, investment bankers, and legal counsels from Fortune 500 companies struggling with generic, ten-year-old materials that had zero relevance to modern business. They needed to lead meetings, negotiate with partners in mainland China, and handle high-stakes business trips with confidence—yet traditional schools were forcing them through mindless rote memorization.
Driven by my deep love for teaching and a determination to fix this broken system, I began creating my own innovative curriculum. I designed practical, modular course materials tailored specifically for busy professionals in Hong Kong, including our proprietary Building Blocks character framework that makes reading and recognizing Chinese characters intuitive and logical, rather than a frustrating chore.
Because my classes were high-energy, practical, and results-driven, my students made rapid progress, and word spread quickly. Before long, my schedule was completely full—teaching from 7:30 in the morning until 9:30 at night, Monday through Sunday.
When new students were waiting to join and my schedule physically had no room left, I knew it was time to scale this teaching approach and build a team. On September 23, 2014, I officially registered Nihao Language Education and brought together a team of teachers who share that same passion for teaching.
Our motto has always been simple: Communication for a bigger world. We want learning Chinese at Nihao to be practical, enjoyable, and efficient—opening new doors for your life and career, not feeling like a chore.
Over the past 12 years, we’ve taught over 4,000 students and trained teams at more than 300 multinational corporations. But no matter how much we grow, my founding promise remains unchanged: practical materials, passionate teachers, and innovative lessons designed to help you speak authentic Chinese in the shortest time possible.
Learn with Nihao, and communicate for a bigger world!

Instead of tedious rote memorization, we break characters down into logical components (radicals and semantic roots). Once you learn these essential building blocks, recognizing new characters and expanding your compound vocabulary feels intuitive, systematic, and retentive.
